New Year, New Goals

My Resolutions for 2018

What’s in store for me in 2018?

This post is a little late, mostly because I’ve been so focused on getting my new website happening and the launch of Spirit Woman underway. I did my goal-setting at the beginning of the year, but I haven’t had a change to post about it until now. Hope you’ll indulge me with this post!

Round up of 2017

Was 2017 a successful year? Here’s the main things that I achieved in 2017:

  • I drafted, revised and edited Spirit Woman, the second book in the Airwoman series. I’d hoped to also release Spirit Woman in 2017 too, but the year got away from me. It’s a better book for the waiting though!
  • I outlined the third and final book in the Airwoman series which I’ll start drafting in 2018. I’m keen to be in a position to release it at the end of 2018 or early 2019 (which is more likely).
  • I really focused on my newsletter and started to produce regular creative content for those people who receive my monthly news. Click here if you want to sign up to my newsletter for regular updates on what I’m doing.
  • I also created a part of my website that hosts all of this extra Airwoman content so that members of my newsletter can find it all in one place. I’m pleased to say that this member’s area now has short stories, character interviews, maps, world-building information, and much, much more. Also, I’m adding to it regularly. Click here to sign up to my newsletter, if you want access to my member only content.
  • I did quite a bit of guest posting at various writing and book blogs, which I really enjoyed. Also a few live interviews!
  • I also did a talk to the kids in my daughters class about writing and stories. This was an unexpected pleasure (unexpected because her teacher asked out of the blue, and also because I absolutely loved talking to this bunch of attentive and curious seven and eight year olds!)

Looking forward to 2018

My main goals for 2018 are fairly immediate. I want to release Spirit Woman by the end of January. As of this post, I’m on track for that to happen, which I’m really pleased about. My other immediate goal is to get my new website finished. If you’re reading this, that mean’s I’ve made it live…yay!

Here’s a list of the other things I want to achieve this year (in no particular order):

  • Release Spirit Woman (Airwoman #2)
  • Make my new website live
  • Draft Book 3 in the Airwoman series, plus revise and get the draft to editors (at least)
  • Decide and plan for my next book (I’ve got plenty of ideas but haven’t nailed down exactly which path I’m going to go down). This one will be separate, that is, not part of the Airwoman world.
  • Read 30 books (this is my Goodreads challenge–follow me on Goodreads to see how I go).
  • Get fitter! Specifically, three sessions of exercise per week. I already know this is going to be tough to keep, but I’ve started strong!

They’re my main goals. It’s going to be a big year–I’ve also got my son starting school and house renovations getting underway–so there’s no chance I’ll get bored!

What about you? Do you have any big goals for the year ahead? How are you tracking with them? I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
