Those of you who have taken advantage of my giveaway–get your free preview of Airwoman here–will have discovered that the main character, Jade Gariq, wears a necklace of charms that have been gifted to her from those who have travelled across the Betwixt, to the faraway worlds of the Dragonverse and returned. These charms are special to her because they are reminders of places she longs to see.
When I was about ten years old, I went on an overseas holiday with my family. We spent six weeks in Thailand, Hong Kong and then Europe, travelling through the United Kingdom, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and France. It was a magical experience and, as a family, we still reminisce about our this family holiday.
Before I left, my aunt gave me a charm bracelet. She suggested I add a charm from every place we visited, as memories of our holiday. I did that faithfully, not just on that trip, but on later holidays with my family. I still have that bracelet and, even now, I can tell you where each charm came from:
Knowing how much Jade wishes to travel the Dragonverse, I knew she would have something similar to my charm bracelet. She wears her charms around her neck, and they are not memories, but dreams and wishes. Hanging these charms around her neck keeps them close to her heart.
